I first published this Post in 2022. Since then I have found new information that changes the story significantly. I originally based my family tree on a book written in 1929 about the Carlock Family. The author said that Johann Christian Gerlach, Johann Peter Gerlach, Conrad Gerlach and David Gerlach were brothers from Germany who immigrated to America. Subsequent work by a highly respected professional genealogist shows that they in fact were Not brothers.
I have revised this story to reflect this new important information and cleaned up some other details.
